Comment on Aaron Godwin’s TIB Project Report

Hey Aaron! I really enjoyed viewing your project. I think you have an excellent idea in place. You have plenty of great photographs that help to support your belief. In order to better emphasize your story I would suggest that you use some panning techniques. I think that would help draw people in to the smiles on your face and those that you are helping. When you read your essay over your video, make sure to emphasize proper pacing. If you keep all of this in mind I think you will have a strong project. It really looks great. Keep up the good work!

Report on TIB Project

I was able to gather my ideas over the weekend and contribute them to writing. After some consideration on my medium of expressing my project I decided to change my project to an iMovie. I have toyed around with the program and have begun to add some of my photographs from my Eagle project to it. The ones that I have at the moment are not particularly perfect because they were sent to me from my mom at home in a word document and they did not transfer well in the process. I will have to go back and add these photos later. My eagle ceremony is also this weekend so I am planning on getting some photos and videos from that to implement in my project. I really walk to try and read off some of my story and I am taped walking down my trail.

This I Believe Design Plans

What’s your working title?

Self-satisfaction can come from serving others

What’s the purpose of your composition– what do you want it to accomplish (be specific)?

I want to relay to my viewers the fact that sometimes a person who is serving others can have benefits just as positive as their beneficiaries.

Who’s your audience– what are their needs, interests, positions, & how will your digital story address them?

My audience is everyone who is interested in service to the community and elsewhere. They need to be informed on how good things can arise from service. Hopefully by spreading this message, more people will be prompted to give back to their communities.  They may be concerned on whether or not they get anything out of their service. I want them to know that service produces a positive feeling that cannot be achieved any other way.

What medium are you working in?  Are you going to produce a website with a voice recording and pictures?  A Prezi with audio and images or video?  A VoiceThread? Why will that medium work for your audience and your purpose?

I have three options:

  1. A Prezi. I plan on using my experiences from completing my Eagle project to express the self-satisfaction that I discovered arises from service. I can use pictures of my project to highlight the written text of my story. I could possibly work in audio, either in narration or in a background song clip if prezi allows it.
  2. A video. I can use iMovie to create a video of my project. I could highlight my story with text then fit in a photo slide-show of my project as I go along. I can either use the included iMovie music to set the mood of my presentation or I can fit in a narration of my story.
  3. I could do a website with multimedia elements. This would allow me to craft a text-based version of my idea. I could then come back and place a narrative of the same text for the viewers to listen to as they read along. I could also incorporate pictures of my project in the website as well (with subtitles describing them).

Project Planning–for the alphabetic text (narrative), will you write out a full script, work from storyboards, free-form into the microphone? How will you record your voice?

I will probably write out a script just so that I will have some structure to base my project off of. This way I already have what I am going to narrate prepared.

What kinds of visuals do you need? Drawings, Pictures, Video? Sketches? Do you already have these materials?  If not, how and when will you get them? Will you add music to create mood? Will you write and perform your own? What tracks might you sample? What softwares will you need to use?

I have a ton of pictures of my Eagle Scout service project that I completed that I will incorporate into my project. I may also incorporate some general images of cheerful service as well. I may look for open-domain music to sample in my project or record a voiceover of my written text. I can do most of this using garageband on my Mac.

What technical difficulties might you face? What legal or ethical concerns do you need to consider?

I may have technical difficulties learning how to use the different mediums because I am new to them all but I’m sure I will get used to them with practice. I don’t foresee any legal or ethical concerns since I will be using mostly graphics and information that I have acquired myself.

What support do you need from the class?

I need the classes’ support to help me decide which medium they believe will be the best fit for my project idea.

Added:

I believe that I may ultimately decide to make a iMovie. If I find that that medium is a bit to challenging to control I may opt for one of my other medium’s listed. I like iMovie because of its use of motion and transitions. I think that since I have a lot of pictures in my project, a movie slideshow would work great . The movement of the visuals will help to tie my  main points and related imagery together. I will obviously want to use some of my own imagery from my eagle project. It would make sense to begin with images taken at the beginning and eventually lead up to my finish product and some happy pictures of me. This would help me convey my message that doing service gives you self-satisfaction. If I include any writing in my final project, I want to make sure that it is easy to read and will draw viewers in.
